Ex-Bayan Muna party-list solon dies at 52

DAVAO CITY -- Former Bayan Muna representative Joel Virador died at Brokenshire Hospital here past 11 a.m Tuesday due to papillary carcinoma or thyroid cancer.

Virador, 52, has been out of the public eye for a long time due to his ailment, first diagnosed sometime in 2013.

Harvey Virador, the lawmaker’s son, broke the news on his Facebook post. He said his father did not immediately seek treatment because the first diagnosis was non-cancerous.

Virador was Bayan Muna Party-list representative from 2004 to 2007 and held the position of executive vice president of the party.

He also served as secretary general of the Karapatan-Southern Mindanao and later became regional vice chairman for federation affairs of the Kilusang Mayo Uno–Southern Mindanao.

His remains will be brought to the IFI Compound in Davao and later to Makilala North Cotabato, his son said.

Virador is survived by wife Imelda, daughter Joanna Paula Vasig and Harvey. (PNA)
