Leyte town administrator shot dead

TACLOBAN CITY -- The municipal administrator of San Isidro, Leyte was shot to death Wednesday morning outside the house of the town mayor, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.

Unidentified gunmen on board a mid-sized pickup truck attacked Levi Mabini, 42, a resident of Daja Dako village in San Isidro town. He also doubles as chief of the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office.

The attack occurred around 8 a.m. when the victim got off a motorcycle outside a gas station in Capiñahan village where Mayor Susan Ang resides. He was about to meet the mayor when gunmen attacked him.

The local official suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the crime scene. Wounded during the incident was Jea Itang, 19, a bystander and Joseph Misa, 26, Mabini’s companion.

The local police recovered four empty shells of M16 rifle, one empty shell of 9mm caliber pistol, and one unfired ammunition of .45-caliber pistol after the attackers fled to an unknown location. Authorities launched a hot pursuit operation after the incident.

Mabini is a close aide of the reelectionist town mayor, the wife of former mayor and incumbent Leyte 3rd district Board Member Alan Ang. (PNA)
