TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite -- Gemma Lubigan was officially proclaimed mayor-elect of this city on Wednesday by Commission on Elections (Comelec) city officer, lawyer Jastine Marie dela Cruz.

Lubigan, who ran for mayor to continue the “unfinished business” of her slain husband, city vice mayor Alex Lubigan, is the first ever female to hold the city's top post.

"A challenge for me," Lubigan said on her new task, aware of the big expectations of city folks from her.

Lubigan and her partymates occupy the majority of local positions, including vice mayor Romeo Montehermoso and seven out of the 10 city councils.

She won by more than 6,000 votes against former city mayor Melencio de Sagun.

Trece Martires City has 92 clustered precincts, with 84,430 registered voters. Some 61,982 city residents came out to vote last Monday. (PNA)
