BACOLOD CITY -- After the success of the maiden Bacolod Chicken Inasal Festival last year, this city is hosting the second edition on May 25 to promote its famous grilled chicken as a major tourist come-on.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, head of the festival organizing committee, said Friday at least 25 establishments have already confirmed their participation.

“We will have the same length of grills, but we will add more chicken,” Rojas said in an interview.

This year, the festival will still feature 300 meters of barbecue grills lined up along Araneta St. Last year, 3,000 pieces of chicken parts were prepared for the festival.

Rojas, who was re-elected as number one councilor in the May 13 elections, said the event will now include the Fantasy Chicken Costume Competition and Sawsawan Contest.

She added they have invited the city’s federation of senior citizens to join the boodle fight and serve as beneficiaries of the festival.

On Thursday, Rojas met with officials of the Bacolod City Police, including Lt. Col. Luisito Acebuche and Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, to discuss the security preparations for the upcoming festival.

The 1st Bacolod Chicken Inasal Festival held on May 5 last year was graced by Russian Ambassador Igor Khovaev, who said the Bacolod chicken inasal is the best grilled chicken he has ever tasted.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia then said he believes that Bacolod is where the chicken inasal started and became famous.

“This festival proclaims to the world that this is the original, this is the best, and it belongs to Bacolod,” the mayor had declared.

Bacolod is home to the famed Manokan Country, a row of food stalls, which mainly serves grilled chicken, located at the Reclamation Area. It also hosts a number of grilled chicken restaurants that now have franchises in Metro Manila. (PNA)
