DAVAO CITY -- Newly-crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) North American Boxing Organization (NABO) lightweight champion Romero “Ruthless” Duno on Thursday received a hero’s welcome in his hometown in General Santos City.

The 23-year-old Duno won his title against Juan Antonio “Mozo” Rodriguez of Mexico on May 16 at the Fantasy Spring Casino in Indio, California.

“It feels great to be home with my loved ones. It feels even better than I have a new belt with me," said Duno who was welcomed by his family, SanMan team and fans at the airport.

"Hopefully this is going to be a world title belt the next time around," he added.

He said he will continue to work hard so that he is prepared anytime an opportunity comes.

Duno improved his ring record to 20-1 with 15 wins via knockouts.

SanMan CEO Jim Claude "JC" Manangquil commended Duno for his victory.
