TACLOBAN CITY -- A soldier was killed while three of his companions were injured when the military vehicle, they were riding in crashed into a parked truck in San Isidro village in Sta. Rita, Samar early Monday.

Confirmed dead is Staff Sgt. Elmer Cinco, while his wounded companions are Corporals Agusto Basilan and Chito Jose Gacutan, and PFC. Emerson Palunay, the Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office in Palo, Leyte confirmed in a report sent to reporters Tuesday.

According to a report reaching the police regional office, the military vehicle of the Army’s 801st Brigade based in Hinabangan, Samar collided with a cargo truck loaded with copra parked on the roadside.

The cargo truck has been parked for a few hours after it broke down. The driver placed an early warning device but half of the truck’s body occupied a portion of the national highway.

“Soldiers were traveling to Tacloban City and upon reaching San Isidro village around 4:35 a.m., an alleged incoming truck coming from the opposite direction did not give way to the Army truck and continued to go past the parked truck,” the police report said.

A house was also damaged due to the accident. (PNA)
