MANILA -- Outgoing Senator Loren Legarda on Thursday said she is ready to chair any committee in the House of Representatives for the 18th Congress given her deep expertise at the Senate.
Legarda, who was elected as Antique representative for the new Congress, said she would prefer heading a committee similar to the one she currently chairs in the Senate.
She is the chairperson of the Senate finance panel, which is the counterpart of the appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.
The finance committee concerns itself on matters relating to funds for the expenditures of the national government and for the payment of public indebtedness; auditing of accounts and expenditures of the national government; claims against the government; inter-governmental revenue sharing; and, in general, all matters relating to public expenditures.
“I said I’ve chaired so many committees in the Senate. I'm ready to chair any committee (in the House),” Legarda said in a media forum.
“I would appreciate it if I can chair a committee which I have chaired for four years that has effected change,” she added.
The senator said that while she is up for the job, she will respect the decision of the House leadership regarding the committee chairmanship designation.
“It is not for me to designate myself as chair of any committee. I will respect the decisions of the leadership in the House,” Legarda said. (PNA)
