DAVAO CITY – Two persons died on the spot while two others were injured when a passenger bus and a private car collided along Quimpo Blvd. here at dawn Friday.

Authorities identified the victims as Melody Ann Sotela Ybañez, 27, a  resident of 222 Isarog St., Central Park, Bangkal, this city, and Janilou Faye Rosales, 21, who just graduated from the San Pedro College.

Police said both Ybañez and Rosales died when the vehicle, a Mazda Sedan driven by Ybañez, encroached on the lane of the Davao Metro Shuttle Bus, leading to a high-impact collision.

Ybañez, who owned the vehicle, was holding a student permit that expired on Sept. 27, 2018.

The collision also caused injuries to two passengers of the bus, identified as Felipa Sarcauga and Jessica Badayos.

A police report from the Davao City Police said the Metro Bus, driven by Ricky Aban Deloso, was heading towards West Eco-Drive while the Mazda Sedan driven by Ybañez was heading towards MacArthur Highway.

Due to the impact of the collision, the Mazda car was dragged 22 meters away from the probable point of impact, police said.

Police said Deloso, who is currently detained, will face charges for  reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property. (PNA)
