MANILA — Green Archers United spoiled Mendiola's grand debut in the Philippines Football League with a 5-1 rout at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona, Cavite on Sunday.

GAU pulled away in the second half to break out of a 1-1 deadlock at halftime.

Val Jurao opened the scoring in the game with a fourth-minute goal to put GAU ahead.

However, Franco Dela Torre answered in the 28th minute with a goal of his own to tie the match.

A 53rd-minute goal from skipper Tating Pasilan sparked GAU's breakaway, which included another Jurao goal in the 58th minute and a 64th-minute strike from substitute James Kim.

John Celiz put the icing on the cake for the match with GAU's fourth goal in stoppage time.

The win put GAU into a tie with Kaya Iloilo for second place in the team standings with six points, although the latter owns the tiebreaker on goal difference.

Despite the loss, Mendiola will remain in fifth place due to a better goal difference than fellow winless sides Air Force and Global Makati. (PNA)
