NoCot village councilor killed in 2nd attempt on his life

COTABATO CITY – A village councilman in North Cotabato, who survived ab assassination attempt last month, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting in Pikit, North Cotabato on Sunday.

Samama Samok, 58, village councilor of Barangay Rajah Muda, Pikit, North Cotabato was sitting on his motorbike in front of a roadside variety store for a brief stopover when shot by two unidentified gunmen at 10:30 a.m.

Lt. Col. Bernard Tayong, speaking for police in North Cotabato, said Samok sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Cruzado Medical Clinic in Poblacion Pikit.

“Police investigators are looking at personal grudge as the motive behind the attack.

The identities of the attackers are also yet to be established,” Tayong said.

Samok survived an assassination attempt on May 18 while driving his motorbike along the national highway in Barangay Inug-ug of the same town.

Col. Maximo Layugan, North Cotabato police director, has ordered the Pikit municipal police office to fast-track the investigation to bring the perpetrators before the bar of justice. (PNA)
