MANILA -- President Rodrigo Duterte has named retired Army general Ricardo Morales as member of the board of trustees of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

Duterte appointed Morales on May 27 but a copy of his appointment paper was released to media on Tuesday (June 4).

Morales, whose term will last until June 30, 2019, replaces MWSS administrator Reynaldo Velasco.

Velasco was earlier named MWSS board chairperson.

Morales' appointment came after Duterte threatened to replace MWSS officials for failing to address the water shortage experienced in some parts of Metro Manila last March.

Duterte also chastised the MWSS officials for failing to provide immediate solutions to prevent the country’s water supply from depleting.

Velasco said he is willing to resign should the water shortage problem in Metro Manila persist. (PNA)
