DAVAO CITY – Qatar Airways has announced that it will be opening the Doha-Davao route starting next week.

Qatar Airways becomes the 11th airline to fly to Davao and the fourth international carrier to do so after XiamenAir, Cathay Dragon and SilkAir.

In an announcement on its website, the state-owned airline said passengers flying to Doha from Davao can start purchasing their tickets at the special launch price of just USD750 (about PHP38,921.25).

The initial flight date has been set on June 18. It will service the route once a week.

The airline said travelers flying from Davao to Doha can easily fly to about 160 other destinations worldwide.

“Let us take you to some of the most enchanting destinations across the world! Experience the adventures in Africa, uncover the magic of the Middle East, enjoy scenic Europe or be swept away by the vibrant American cities. Wherever your inspiration takes you next, fly Qatar Airways and let us make your journey as enchanting as the destination,” it said in announcing the Doha-Davao route.

Qatar Airways, which was founded in 1993, is a member of the Oneworld Alliance and has a fleet of over 200 aircraft. It is owned by the State of Qatar.

The airline, headed by Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker, has been positioning itself as the carrier of choice in the run-up to the 2022 FIFA Worldcup, which the tiny peninsular Arab country of 2.63 million will be hosting.

In May alone, it launched three routes from Doha - Izmir, Turkey on May 23, thrice a week; Malta (also on May 23), daily service; and Rabat, Morocco on May 29, thrice a week.

Qatar Airways said three more routes will be opened until October.

These are Doha to Lisbon, Portugal starting June 24, daily service using Boeing 787; Mogadishu, Somalia starting July 1 with three times a week Airbus A320 flights; and Langkawi, Malaysia, thrice a week using Boeing 787 starting October 15. (PNA)
