Former Ilocos Norte town mayor dies at 87

LAOAG CITY -- Leonardo Velasco, former mayor of Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, succumbed to hypertension early Tuesday morning. He was 87 years old.
 
According to family members, Velasco has been confined at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City, and never recovered from his illness. 
 
Employees of the local government unit of Bacarra offered a minute of silence for the former mayor who served during the time of the late strongman Ferdinand E. Marcos.
 
Velasco also served as director of the Ilocos Norte Electric cooperative representing the Bacarra-Pasuquin district. (PNA)
