DUMAGUETE CITY -- The municipality of Sibulan in Negros Oriental is all out in the campaign against illegal drugs with the local chief executive initiating a random drug test for all job order employees (JOs).

Mayor Jose Pepe Abiera wants a drug-free workplace in the municipality starting with the officials, regular and casual plantilla employees including the job orders, said Indira Requiron-Puspus, executive assistant to the mayor.

First to undergo the random urine sampling on Wednesday were the JOs, especially drivers assigned in different offices including the ambulance drivers.

According to Puspus, almost 400 job order employees underwent the random drug test, while waiting for a communication from the Civil Service Commission for a similar test for the regular and casual plantilla employees.

Initial results showed a number of JOs were tested positive for use of illegal substance upon examination of their urine samples at the Sibulan municipal gymnasium.

Puspus said based on last years’ experience, those tested positive did not report back to work. (PNA)
