MANILA -- Majority of the national sports associations (NSAs) on Tuesday agreed to hold an election for the vacant Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) positions.

POC chairman Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino, who presided over the POC general assembly meeting at the GSIS gymnasium, said the election will be held on July 5.

Tolentino has volunteered to resign along with POC first vice president Jose Romasanta, auditor Jonne Go, treasurer Julian Camacho and board members Clint Aranas and Cynthia Carrion.

Second vice president Antonio Tamayo, Prospero Pichay and Robert Mananquil did not attend the meeting.

On June 18, POC president Ricky Vargas tendered his irrevocable resignation after majority of the POC board criticized his inclusion as one of the incorporators of Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) foundation. The board opposed the incorporation of PHISGOC.

Vargas’s action has prompted Tolentino to call for general assembly meeting.

"I hope that the new set of officers will change the face of the POC, which is damaged," said Romasanta, who assumed the POC top post following Vargas resignation.

Frank Elizalde, the former International Olympic Committee (IOC) representative to the Philippines, was named chairman of the July 5 elections. (PNA)
