Pangasinan braces for typhoon season

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- The Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has trained its personnel and local disaster and risk reduction management (LDRRM) officers and set in place rescue equipment for the rainy season.
 
PDRRMO spokesperson Avenix Arenas said some 40 personnel of their office and LDRRM officers participated Wednesday in emergency operation center training.
 
“The PDRRMO’s emergency operation center will soon be activated so we are done training the personnel, particularly on concepts and management of the center,” she said in an interview Thursday.
 
“This aims to hasten response and coordination among concerned agencies such as the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, the LDDRM offices in towns and cities, among others,” she added.
 
Aside from the exercise, the PDRRMO continuously holds capacity training for its personnel.
 
Arenas further said they have already put in place the rescue equipment as weather disturbances are expected to affects many parts of the country soon.
 
“The provincial government has purchased two mini rescue trucks with generators, in addition to our six rescue trucks, elf trucks, multi-purpose rescue vehicles, two jet skis, four rescue boats, four rubber boats, among others,” she said.
 
“We also update our fishermen in the western part of Pangasinan on weather situation so they would be aware and prevent them from being stranded at sea,” she said.
 
Although the weather disturbance will only bring rains and is not expected to have a direct impact in the province, Arenas advised Pangasinenses to stay vigilant and ready always. (PNA)
