Another NPA member arrested in NegOcc

BACOLOD CITY -- A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was arrested at his residence in Sitio Candi-is, Barangay Buenavista in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Thursday morning, a report from the Philippine Army said.

The suspect was identified as Jasper Aguyong, a member of the local party branch of Central Negros Front (CNF), Komiteng Rehiyong-Negros (KR-N).

He is the seventh member of the communist rebel group arrested in two days by the joint police and military personnel after the first six apprehended on Wednesday in three separate operations also in the same village.

Aguyong was arrested based on the warrant of arrest for six counts of frustrated murder issued by Judge Rodney Magbanua of Regional Trial Court Branch 61 in Kabankalan City.

He was alleged to be involved in the wounding of six soldiers during the encounter between government troops and communist rebels at Sitio Bunsad, Barangay Tan-awan in neighboring Kabankalan City in May last year.

On Wednesday, the six arrested were identified as Rodrigo Medez “Salvo”, secretary of local party branch of CNF, KR-N, and member of Yunit Militia, along with Jimmy Teves, Jodito Montecino, JP Romano, Eliseo Andres, and Roger “Jack” Sabanal, also unit Yunit Militia members.

They are facing two counts of murder and six counts of frustrated murder for the deaths of two soldiers and the injury of six others during the same clash in Barangay Tan-awan.

The warrants of arrest were served by personnel of the 2nd Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office Mobile Force Company and the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion in the respective homes of the suspects in Sitios Bito, Balatugan and in Dawhan.

Teves, Montecino, and Romano were arrested just before 8 a.m.; Medez and Andres, at 11:45 a.m., and Sabanal at 3 p.m. (PNA)
