COTABATO CITY – Farmers affected by the recent El Niño phenomenon in Kidapawan City have received certified seeds’ assistance from the city government on Thursday.

Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista led the distribution of rice seeds funded under the city’s calamity fund allotment.

“It (assistance) aims to help farmers recover from losses they incurred as a result of the dry season during the months of January to March this year,” Evangelista told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a phone interview.

He said each bag contains about 40 kilos of certified seeds that farmers can start with as the rainy season officially started recently this year.

The city has procured 1,200 bags of certified rice seeds and 1,090 of which have been distributed to farmers.

Evangelista said the remaining 110 bags will serve as buffer stock for farmers still in need of seeds assistance. (PNA)
