MANILA -- The RP Blu Girls did not attain the start they needed in the USA Softball International Cup at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Georgia, USA.

The Blu Girls' gallant stand against China fell short and lost, 6-9, in their campaign opener and dropped a 1-8 defeat to host country USA later in the day.

Despite a solid outing from Angelie Ursabia, who went 3-for-4 in her at-bats, the brilliance of Xu Jia, Chen Jia, and Lu Ying for China was just too much for the Blu Girls despite making 11 hits in total.

"We had a close game against China. We had a good, strong start but we need to finish strong, too," Jean Henri Lhuillier, Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) president and Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO, commented on the said defeat.

Meanwhile, an off game from pitcher Riflayca Basa set the tone for the Blu Girls defeat to USA as she conceded four runs in five hits and one walk in just two innings.

But Lhuillier saw the defeat as an opportunity for the Blu Girls to learn.

"Our girls can only get better by playing higher-ranked teams. Nonetheless, the experience it taught our girls is a good one," he added. (PNA)
