MANILA -- Russia led for almost the entire stretch of the game before mauling Gilas Pilipinas Youth by 28 points, 92-64, in their final game in the group stage of the FIBA U19 World Cup at the Heraklion University Hall, Greece early Wednesday (Philippine Time).

A far cry from its first two games where it had its chances, Gilas Youth never found its groove offensively against Russia despite doing pretty at the other end of the floor as the team finished the preliminary round of the tournament winless after three tries.

Alexander Ershov tallied 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Nikita Mikhailovskii added 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists to lead Russia, which finished in second place in Group C, setting up a playoff first-round encounter with China later on Wednesday.

Kai Sotto and Dave Ildefonso each made 14 markers for Gilas Youth, which slipped to the fourth seed in Group C and will face Serbia in their own playoff encounter. (PNA)
