TF Davao to implement 'no jacket policy'

DAVAO CITY – Task Force Davao is set to implement the "no jacket policy" in all the entry and exit points here--including during local festivities--to further ensure the safety of Dabawenyos.

The new security measure came after the recent twin bombing in Sulu that killed eight individuals and left 12 wounded.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Col. Consolito Yecla, commander of TF-Davao, said they will discuss the new rule with the city government.

“This will only be done when you are approaching the entry points or inspection areas. With this, possible suicide bombers cannot penetrate to the city or to groups of people,” Yecla explained.

He added the new standard operating procedure will also be implemented during big events in the city, such as Kadayawan Festival.

“They can wear their jacket again as soon as they have passed the inspection area,” he added.

The TF-Davao commander also announced their campaign to improve the culture of security within the organization, even as he urged the public to be vigilant and help in the implementation of security measures imposed by the government.

“Be the eyes and ears by reporting suspicious persons and unattended baggage. It is very easy to neutralize a terrorist but the hardest part there is to identify them,” Yecla said.

He also reminded the public to practice the “no backpack policy” and the prohibition of bringing plastic containers in selected public places.

“Help us in securing the city and denying the entry of these terrorists,” Yecla said.

TF-Davao has installed baggage scanners and body X-ray machines in major entries and exit points in the city which is in Sirawan, Lasang,, and Lacson. The other one is installed in the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT). (PNA)
