LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Newly-elected Governor Danilo Suarez has revealed his program to cascade more development projects to Quezon’s eastern Pacific seaboard towns and geographically isolated areas in a bid to spur economic development.
During the Sangguniang Panlalawigan inaugural session on Monday, Suarez said his administration’s Pacific Policy Program aims to boost development of Pacific towns of Real, Infanta and General Nakar (REINA), including geographically isolated eastern island towns in the Polillo Group of Islands (POGI).
“Hindi lamang magbibigay ng daan ito para sa kaunlaran ng lalawigan ngunit magsisilbi ring daan para sa kinabukasan ng buong bansa (This will not only pave the way for the development of the province but also augurs well for the country’s future progress),” he stressed.
During the first legislative council session, the governor, along with provincial department heads and the Provincial Board Members, also tackled the need to implement infrastructure projects and health programs, and generate more jobs for Quezonians.
Suarez also vowed to complete the ongoing South Luzon Expressway Extension or TR4 in the province, and implement his proposed measure during his stint as former House Minority Floor Leader for the establishment of the Quezon-Bicol Expressway or QuBex.
He explained these mega projects could hasten the transport and trade of the province’s products, and boost inter-trading of various goods from the neighboring towns.
As a priority measure, his administration sets its target to lower the poverty rate through jobs generation, citing the more than 1,000 job prospects for Quezonians upon completion of the Quezon Steel Asia Factory in Candelaria town.
For the health sector, Suarez aims to expand the “Serbisyong Suarez” health coupons to benefit village councilors, in addition to the village chiefs who were earlier covered under the program.
The governor said he will also broaden the health coupon’s coverage not only in government but also in private hospitals.
In his address, Suarez also enjoined the Provincial Engineering Office to craft the master plan for an integrated site for the various provincial government departments and offices to speed up local government services transactions and ease of doing business. (PNA)
