SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- Thirteen towns in Antique province on Tuesday suspended their classes due to heavy monsoon rains brought about by Tropical Depression Falcon.
Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train, in an interview, said three towns have declared a suspension of classes from preschool to senior high school.
“The local government units of Caluya, Libertad and Culasi have initially declared a suspension of classes this morning because of the heavy rains there,” Train said.
He said Pandan, San Jose de Buenavista, Tibiao, Sibalom, Hamtic, Belison, San Remigio, Patnongon, Sebaste, and Laua-an also declared a suspension of classes in the afternoon.
Train said that based on the information provided to them by the Department of Public Works and Highways Antique Engineering District all roads are passable despite the monitored increase of water level in the riverbeds that could cause flooding.
“We are also closely monitoring the landslide-prone Barangay Binanuan of Barbaza town because continuous rain could soften the soil,” he said.
Train also said that since last Monday, the Philippine Coast Guard Antique Station had already sent out an advisory to fishermen to refrain from going to the sea due to expected moderate to occasionally heavy rains.
He said that they will continue to monitor the situation in Antique until the weather improves. (PNA)
