MANILA -- A Filipino mom started labor while onboard an arriving flight on Wednesday afternoon, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) confirmed on Thursday.

The 32-year old mom was onboard Saudia Airlines flight SV 862 from Saudi Arabia when she experienced abdominal pain and contractions.

Apparently, the patient was complaining of abdominal contractions occurring every 5-10 minutes.

"Vaginal bleeding was also noted. She was seen inside the aircraft lying on the floor, being attended by two passenger nurses," MIAA medical officer Patria Pacquing said in her report.

The patient was not in cardio-respiratory distress, she added.

Pacquing said MIAA's medical team was sent to the airport gate, and got the patient "hooked to intravenous fluid" and also placed her on oxygen support. MIAA's ambulance then brought the patient to San Juan de Dios Hospital.

"Upon reaching the emergency room, bag of water spontaneously ruptured, hence she was immediately brought to the delivery room and gave birth to a preterm baby," Pacquing said. (PNA)
