MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur--Twenty out of the 22 barangays of this town have received vehicles and equipment as part of disaster preparedness measures.

Mayor Arthur Davin said the acquisition of vehicles and equipment would enable villages to better respond to disasters and calamities, and help save lives and properties.

“These equipment for disaster would suffice the need of our municipality in terms of disaster response,” Davin said during his State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) Monday morning.

Additional funding, he said, is being worked out so that all the town's 22 barangays will be equipped with sufficient disaster response equipment.

More importantly, the mayor underscored the need for local disaster responders to undergo skills training to be "fully equipped with knowledge on how to handle emergency and rescue operations".

“Information campaign in the barangays have been continuously conducted to keep the people informed or increase the level of awareness on what to do when natural calamities occur,” he added.

Apart from the vehicle in the barangays, this municipality have three ambulance on standby and three other rescue vehicles. (PNA)
