MANILA— An official of the Intramuros Administration (IA) said on Wednesday a total of PHP410 million was allocated to relocate at least 500 informal settlers in the walled city.

‘’There is now a program to address the informal settlers and the good thing is that there is budget made available. The project is a socialized housing program,’’ IA administrator, lawyer Guiller Asido told reporters in an interview.

The official said there are a total of 894 households classified as informal settlers living inside the landmark. With the allocated PHP410-million budget, at least 500 are seen to be relocated soon.

‘’The first 174 families, they have visited two sites already. And because this is a socialized housing program, we, of course, have to consider their opinion in terms of the choice of the selection of the relocation site,’’ he added.

Asido noted that national housing agencies, such as the National Housing Authority and the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, as well as the Manila City Hall, have expressed their support to the Intramuros initiative.

‘’We are not doing this alone. We target to relocate the first 174 by the first quarter of next year,’’ he said, noting that the first batch already visited relocation sites in Tanza and Silang, Cavite. (PNA)
