DAGUPAN CITY -- The Dagupan City government is set to donate PHP100,000 to Batanes as a display of solidarity and support to victims of twin earthquakes on July 27, resulting in nine deaths.
In the Sangguniang Panlungsod regular session Tuesday, resolution number R-5782 authored by Councilors Celia Lim, Librada “Dada” Reyna, and Cisco Jay Flores, was unanimously approved.
Flores said the assistance will be immediately turned over to the local government unit (LGU) of Batanes.
“They really need the money for them to be able to purchase various materials and needs in order to extend to the victims,” he said in an interview Thursday.
Flores noted the city is paying it forward since it has received several aids during times of disasters.
“When the city suffered due to disasters, help came by. Ipinapasa lang natin yung kabutihan na ibinigay nila sa atin (We are just passing the goodness we have received from other people),” he added.
Meanwhile, Flores urged fellow Dagupeños to help the earthquake victims in any way they can.
“What they need the most, aside from material assistance, are prayers. But it would also be much better if we could send help in any way we can,” he added. (PNA)
