LEGAZPI CITY -- The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) raised the region's dengue alert level to code blue as cases in the region are now above the alert threshold, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Thursday said.

Claudio Yucot, OCD regional director and RDRRMC chairman, in an interview after their Special Full Council Meeting at the OCD regional office here, said raising the blue alert status means the activation of an emergency operation center.

The Special Full Council Meeting includes 54 government agencies that can help Bicol health and disaster authorities fight the mosquito-borne disease.

Yucot said the emergency operation center will now monitor the implementation of actions to curb dengue with the help of the Department of Health and other agencies.

He noted that with the approval of the council, a simultaneous clean-up drive will be conducted in the region for the whole month of August.

“It will start on August 9 and the succeeding Fridays of August. It will be a Bicol-wide approach in relation to the increasing number of dengue cases in the region. Every government office down to the barangay level, we are expecting the participation of everyone," Yucot said. (PNA)
