MANILA -- Detained Senator Leila de Lima has been granted a 48-hour furlough from her detention by the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) to allow the lawmaker to attend to her ill mother.

In separate orders dated August 13 and 14, the Muntinlupa RTC Branches 205 and 256 under Judge Liezel A. Aquiatan and Acting Judge Gener M. Gito, respectively, allowed the senator's request citing humanitarian consideration.

The Philippine National Police, at de Lima's expense, was asked to bring her to NICC Doctor's Hospital in Naga City where her mother Norma Magistrado De Lima is confined.

The furlough also extends to any other hospital where the mother may be confined or at their family house in Brgy. San Agustin, Iriga City.

She must also be returned to the detention facility on or before August 16 under the terms of the orders.

Aquiatan also ordered de Lima "to refrain from giving interviews and using communication gadgets during the entire duration of furlough". (PNA)
