DAVAO CITY -- A group of investors from Chongqing town of the People's Republic of China will arrive on Thursday (August 15) to explore business opportunities here.

April Marie Dayap, head of the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC), said that among the projects that the investors are eyeing is the development of an industrial park.

“Chongqing is known as an industrial municipality that has partnerships with different countries like the United Kingdom,” she said.

If it pushes through, Dayap said the industrial park would draw more investors and create more jobs for Dabawenyos.

She noted that the establishment of a government-owned industrial zone of at least 20 hectares and with direct access to port and airports has been one of the city government's priorities.

However, Dayap acknowledged the unavailability of huge tracts of land in coastal areas here may discourage potential investors from putting up industrial zones.

She said the city government has been counting on private landowners who have properties in the city's northern coastal area to partner with foreign investors and help propel the city's economy.

The industrial zone is seen as a magnet to investors with the city's potentials for agri-tourism and manufacturing. (PNA)
