ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Six people, including a policeman and a government employee, were arrested while some PHP286,600 worth of illegal drugs were seized in separate anti-drug operations in this southern port city, police officials said Monday.

Police identified the suspects as Jasim Go Abdua, 50; Feliciano Acasio Ornopya, 42; Gapul Mahamud Sahibad, 30, fish mechant; Arpikal Sisa Indanan, 20; Banisadar Fortin Ladjahasan, 37; and Police Cpl. Alcadzrhynn Mandangan Bandahala, 38.

Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, said Abdua, an employee of the Land Transportation Office, was caught in possession of some PHP170,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in 16 plastic sachets when arrested in a buy-bust operation Saturday in Barangay Baliwasan, this city.

Police also seized from Abdua PHP200 marked money, Quidilla said.

Maj. Helen Galvez, PRO-9 information officer, said Ornopya was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 6:30 a.m. Saturday at a massage and Karaoke bar in Barangay San Jose Gusu.

Galvez said Ornopya yielded some PHP24,600 worth of suspected shabu packed in 11 plastic sachets and PHP300 marked money.

Some PHP85,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in two big plastic sachets and PHP200 marked money were seized from Sahibad and Indanan when they were arrested in a buy-bust operation around 7:15 p.m. Sunday in Peralta Drive, Barangay Mampang, police said.

Police said Ladjahasan and Bandahala were arrested in another buy-bust operation around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in Kasalamatan Drive, Barangay Campo Islam, this city.

Seized from the two were some PHP7,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in four plastic sachets and PHP500 marked money, police said.

The suspects were detained while charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them.

“This accomplishment shows the relentless battle against illegal drugs in the region. The collaborative effort of the PNP (Philippine National Police) and other law enforcement agencies, as well as the community, have been progressive and fruitful," Quidilla said.

Quidilla also reminded the community to report illegal activities in their area through the Hotline numbers in I-sumbong Mo, I-ACTION Ko! (PNA)
