COTABATO CITY – A village chairman and his three companions were injured in an ambush perpetrated by two unidentified attackers on board a motorbike in Barangay Layog, Pagalungan on Monday.

In an interview on Tuesday, Capt. Rasul Pandulo, police chief of adjacent Datu Montawal town in the same province, identified those hurt as Saprola Buday, village chair of Dungguan, Datu Montawal; and Salipada Malalag, Norodin Omar, and Ali Baganlan -- all residents of the same village.

The victims had just attended a special meeting arranged by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for members of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council in Datu Montawal on Monday morning when tailed and fired upon while passing through Barangay Layog aboard their Toyota Revo vehicle.

“The attackers quickly sped off after the incident,” Pandulo said.

Responding policemen took the injured victims to the hospital.

Pandulo said the incident could have stemmed from a long-drawn feud of Buday with another clan in the area.

“We, together with our counterparts in the Pagalungan police office, are currently pursuing a lead but we could not reveal its details so as not to jeopardize our ongoing operation,” the police official said. (PNA)
