LAOAG CITY—Family food packs that could last for a day or two are being distributed since Saturday to typhoon victims in Ilocos Norte coming from various donors including the People’s Republic of China.

In between receiving more donations both from public and private entities including other concerned individuals, Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc thanked generous donors for helping the province cope up with the wrath of Typhoon “Ineng”.

“As we recover from ‘Ineng’, here comes another typhoon ‘Jenny’. We remind all residents to prioritize the vulnerable groups such as the children, our lolos and lolas (grandparents), persons with disabilities and pregnant women,” Manotoc said, noting that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council remains activated due to the inclement weather.

On Tuesday afternoon, 600 family food packs comprised of assorted noodles, rice and water were personally delivered to the Ilocos Norte Capitol by Chinese Consul General Zhou Youbin of the People’s Republic of China.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Lillian Rin, said the Chinese represent the 13th group of donors who extended help for typhoon Ineng victims.

Donations of rice, sleeping kits and other grocery items such as assorted canned goods, cooking oil, coffee, milk, sugar, candles and matches earlier came from the Office of the Civil Defense, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Venvi Agro Industrial Ventures Corp., Surgico and Channet, Chowking, Energy Development Corp., Chua Consolidated, Megopolitan Builders and Construction Supplies, Henry Chua and family, Brian Shah, Remigio family and the Society Agri Ventures Enterprises Inc., among others.

Due to the extent of Ineng's damage, the provincial board has placed Ilocos Norte province under a state of calamity.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, light to moderate to at times heavy rains are still being experienced in the province.

“All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards,” said Manotoc.

Residents along mountain slopes are advised for possible landslides, mudslides, rock slides and flash floods,” said the weather bureau in a statement on Tuesday. (PNA)
