Urban poor agency caravan aids 9K Pagadianons

DAVAO CITY – The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) served on Friday some 9,388 Pagadianons during a "Serbisyo Caravan" held in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Supervising Commissioner for Mindanao Norman Baloro said the caravan aims to enhance awareness of the urban poor communities about the programs and services of the PCUP, as well as of the entire government, to bring closer to the urban poor the basic services and to broaden avenues for participation.

“I thank the city government for their all-out support in making the event successful,” Baloro told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

A total of 9,388 persons availed of the services offered by agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DepEd), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor).

For the constituent’s social protection, PhilHealth and Social Security System addressed their concerns while Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) and Department of Justice (DOJ) gave legal aid.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) also addressed livelihood concerns.

For the land and housing issues, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB), Social Housing and Finance Corporation, National Housing Authority (NHA), Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) attended to their queries.

“It is our duty to extend the services to the Filipinos and make them feel that we have a working government and a government who truly cares,” Baloro said.

Pagadian City is a 2nd class city and the capital of the province of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. It is the regional center of the Zamboanga Peninsula and the second-largest city in the region, after the independent city of Zamboanga.

According to the 2015 census, the city has a population of 199,060 people and is composed of 54 barangays,  14 of which are classified as urban. (PNA)
