MANILA -- Various stakeholders, led by the metallic mineral resource industry’s big players, will gather for the “Mining Philippines 2019 International Conference and Exhibition" slated on September 10-12, 2019 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City.

With the Theme: “Riding the Wave: Capitalizing on Opportunities”, the event is expected to gather representatives from the government, private sector, academe, indigenous people, and mining host communities to tackle mineral resource development issues, challenges, and opportunities in the local and global scene.

The event’s kickoff ceremonies on September 10 will be highlighted by a keynote speech by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary for Climate Change and Mining Concerns Analiza Teh, who will be representing DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu.

The event will also provide participants an update on the Towards Sustainable Mining Initiative with Pierre Gratton, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mining Association of Canada.

Organized by the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines (COMP), the three-day event will explore the government’s way forward for the metallic mineral resource industry and provide a venue for exchanges of ideas and best practices in the mining industry.

COMP Chairman Gerard Brimo said the theme “Riding the Wave: Capitalizing on Opportunities” aptly sets the tone for the event.

“It will be an opportune time to hear from government officials, specifically from agencies mandated to manage the country’s environment and natural resources, the challenges and opportunities for growth as a way forward for the Philippine mineral resource industry,” he said.

“We have an array of topics lined up for this year as we ask ourselves the questions: ‘What is the way forward for the industry? How do we capitalize on the opportunities in the face of the daunting challenges confronting the industry?’ Answers to all these, hopefully, will be provided by our speakers and resource persons,” he added.

On September 12, DENR Undersecretary Teh will return to take the lead in discussions about the way forward for the industry.

Pocholo Domondon, partner at Isla Lipana & Co., will present a global and regional survey of mining taxes and incentives, while Dir. Nestor Arcansalin of the Resource-Based Industries Service of the Board of Investments will identify opportunities under the government’s manufacturing resurgence program. (PR)
