MANILA — Alexa Milliam and Jenaila Prulla opened their stint in the Cebuana Lhuillier Girls Tennis Challenge with contrasting wins at the Makati Sports Club on Friday.

With both tennisters fresh from the World Juniors Tennis Championships in Czech Republic, Milliam and Prulla, the top seeds in the U-14 and U-16 divisions respectively, both prevailed against their respective foes.

Milliam made quick work of Khymberly McKenzie, 6-4, 6-0.

McKenzie, however, bounced back with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Angel Denopol, who also lost to Jufe-Ann Cocoy, 0-6, 1-6.

Prulla, on the other hand, had to play a tie-breaker set before beating a game Sydney Enriquez, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

“Today’s tournament only shows how much talent and skill Filipino junior tennis players can offer in the international scene and I’m confident that this qualifier will produce the most promising athletes who can give us the best chance to take home the WTA Future Stars trophy this year,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, Unified Tennis Philippines president and Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO.
