CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The Misamis Oriental provincial government is eyeing to allocate between PHP10 to PHP25 million for the upgrading of a shrine in Claveria town where the ill-fated Cebu Pacific Flight 387 crashed.

This was bared by Provincial Tourism Officer Jeffrey Saclot during the opening of the provincial Tourism Week on Monday, saying the planned renovation is in support of the intensified branding of Misamis Oriental as a tourism hub in Northern Mindanao.

Under the plan, Saclot said the shrine will be renamed Misamis Oriental Agricultural and Tourism Complex.

He said the budget eyed for the project will be used to construct additional facilities, such as a viewing deck and a garden for flowering plants and pine trees.

He said the site would also serve as a display area for local coffee products made in the locality and nearby towns of the province.

Every second day of February, Misamis Oriental leads the commemoration of the Cebu Pacific Flight 387 crash in the mountains of Sumagaya and Lumot on the boundaries of Claveria-Gingoog City boundary in 1998, killing all 104 passengers and crew. (PNA)
