ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Thursday the local government would continue clearing operations along public roads being used for private purposes in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Salazar also reiterated her call for a 100-percent compliance with the directive by all of the city’s 98 barangays.

She said an evaluation team from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) central office is set to arrive here on October 3 to assess the city’s compliance with the presidential directive and DILG Memorandum Circular 2019-121 issued last July 29.

Officials of the DILG city office met with barangay officials on Monday afternoon for an initial evaluation of the clearing operations in the barangays.

Salazar noted that of the 98 barangays, six have not fully complied with the order, based on the initial DILG assessment.

Based on the DILG circular, local government officials have until September 29 to comply with the President's directive.

Salazar said she has instructed the City Administrator’s Office to make sure that sidewalk vendors in the public market, as well as school administrators, are well-informed of the directive and that there is a need to provide alternatives to ensure that there would be no violations. (PNA)
