BACOOR CITY, Cavite -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Provincial Science and Technology Center in Cavite (PSTC-Cavite), in partnership with the city government, will hold its first Science and Technology (S&T) Fair and Exhibits in the province.

The event will be held at the activity area of the Main Square Mall along Molino Boulevard here from Monday to Wednesday next week.

The "TIKME" project, conceptualized by DOST-Batangas (hence its name, which literally means "to taste" in Batangueño), attempts to revolutionize the traditional food expo by highlighting homegrown entrepreneurs provided with DOST assistance and technology.

DOST-Cavite science research specialist Gilda E. Santioque-de Jesus said Friday the exhibit, dubbed "TIKME Ahoy sa Bacoor!", or the Teknolohiya at Inobasyon Kaagapay ng Micro Enterprises, will feature food and non-food enterprises assisted by PSTC-Cavite and Bacoor’s city government.

The event aims not just to serve as a venue to promote DOST-assisted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) but to inform, as well, the general public of the DOST programs and services, de Jesus said.

"The food products to be showcased are all described by participating MSMEs as Cavite’s taste and pride, a feast of S&T products," she added.

There will also be a seminar on food safety awareness, importance of product packaging and labeling, livelihood seminar on “tahong” chips processing, and a cook-off for “tahong”-based products, de Jesus said.

More than the food expo/trade fair, TIKME is also a channel to learning.

"The seminars and skills training will provide new learnings and knowledge on food safety and product standards and value-adding on tahong produced as a means of livelihood to Caviteños," she said.

On its first Cavite leg, the event is expected to attract new investors, new markets, and distribution channels, and be a benchmark of appropriate innovations for participating enterprises. (PNA)
