BACOOR CITY, Cavite – About 32 marching bands from this city’s public elementary schools added pomp and pageantry to the annual “Bakood Festival” as they paraded along Evangelista Road on Saturday.
Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla led the people during the celebration of the 6th Bakood Festival Drum and Lyre Competition and Civic Parade in line with the 348th founding anniversary of Bacoor town and as a tribute to the feast day of the city’s patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel.
“The annual celebration aims to strengthen camaraderie and instill among the Bacooreños a sense of pride and appreciation for their rich cultural heritage, and to attract local and foreign visitors and investors," Revilla said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
Thousands of students, parents, and teachers from various city public schools and 19 other marching bands joined the colorful parade.
The 32 bands later proceeded to the Strike Gymnasium at the Bacoor Government Center for the grand marching band showdown and competition in the afternoon.
Revilla also said that this year’s Bakood Festival featured the usual service-oriented and fun-filled events, among them trade and job fairs and a concert by performing artists to promote the city’s tourism, trade and industry sectors.
Residents will also be treated to a free concert by musical artists Moira dela Torre, Mark Oblea, Nathan Garcia, and the Run Cav Movers at the Strike Gymnasium at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Cavite Provincial Science and Technology Center will also stage the “TIKME” or the Teknolohiya at Inobasyon, Kaagapay ng Micro Enterprises, a food festival featuring the flavors of Cavite, at the Molino Activity Center on September 30.
Revilla spearheaded the opening salvo of the founding anniversary celebration with the “International Coastal Cleanup Drive” in Barangay Alima last September 21, where some 1,330 volunteers, especially from the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHS-D), Bacoor Campus, participated in the coastal cleanup.
"Our school and students are always coming in to join the campaign ever since the Bacoor City government organized the coastal cleanup drives," said Reno Rayel, School Director of Perpetual Molino.
The coastal cleanup also drew participants from students of the Bacoor National High School and personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection, City Social Welfare and Development Office, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) - Bacoor City.
The city government also launched its “Alert Dial 161” at the newly renovated Bacoor PNP Center in Barangay Talaba and feted Outstanding Law Enforcers at the Strike Gymnasium last September 25. (PNA)
