Aftershocks possible after 6.4-magnitude DavOcc quake

MANILA -- Aftershocks are expected following the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that jolted Davao Occidental on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake, of tectonic origin, struck 123 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos at 10:02 a.m.

It had a depth of 63 kilometers.

The following intensities were recorded:

• Intensity V - Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Glan, Sarangani
• Intensity IV - Malita, Davao Occidental; General Santos City; Alabel, Sarangani; Tupi and Polomolok, South Cotabato
• Intensity III - Mati City, Manay, Tarragona, Davao Oriental; Koronadal City; Tampakan, South Cotabato; Kidapawan City; Makilala, and Magpet, Cotabato; Davao City; Magsaysay and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur; Panabo City; Gingoog City and Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental; Damulog, and Kalilangan, Bukidnon
• Intensity II - Cagayan de Oro City; Balingasag, Jasaan, and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; Kabacan, M'lang, and Tulunan, Cotabato; Columbio and Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat

The Phivolcs, meanwhile, said it is not expecting any damage from the earthquake. (PNA)
