COTABATO CITY – Police arrested a village chief in Maguindanao for carrying an unlicensed gun with ammunition following a road accident in the neighboring town of Esperanza in Sultan Kudarat province on Tuesday.

Lt. Col. Lino Capillan, speaking for the Police Regional Office (PRO-12), identified the arrested village official as Datu Ayatullah Jainal Mapandala, 39, of Barangay Kiladap, Talitay, Maguindanao.

Capillan said the suspect was nabbed following a vehicular accident around 10:30 a.m. along the highway in Barangay Dukay, Esperanza that involved his vehicle and another car.

“He (Mapandala) was carrying a black sling bag that was slightly open and revealed the handgrip of a firearm,” Capillan said in a report. Seized from the suspect’s possession was a .45-caliber pistol and a firearm clip loaded with bullets.

Capillan said the suspect, who failed to present proper documents for the firearm, was brought to the Esperanza police station for custody.

The suspects face charges for violation of the Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act). (PNA)
