ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Office of the City Agriculturist (OCA) has distributed farm inputs to farmers in the east coast district of this city, officials announced Wednesday.

Dr. Godofredo Oliverio, OCA field officer, said a total of 30 farmers in the Vitali district received 700 bags of complete fertilizer and 500 bags urea. The Vitali district covers 10 barangays in the east coast of this city.

Oliverio said the distribution of the farm inputs is to boost the production of the farmer-beneficiaries, who are into rice farming.

He said they have already profiled the recipients as well as certified by farm leaders to ensure they will not sell the fertilizers given to them.

Councilor Jihan Edding, chairperson of the City Council’s Committee on Agriculture, said the farm inputs came from the PHP10 million allocation for agriculture this year.

Edding said an orientation has been conducted prior to the release of the farm inputs to ensure the farmer will properly use the fertilizers.

“The intention of the city government is to help our farmers increase their rice produce,” she added. (PNA)
