ILOILO CITY -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government in Western Visayas (DILG-6) was satisfied with the first 100 days performance of the elected officials in the region.

Ariel Iglesia, DILG-6 director, said on Friday the department had monitored the performance of local executives through its personnel in the municipal and city levels. The elected officials have started their functions on July 1.

Iglesia said they are expected to do their tasks for the past 100 days.

“Their performance in the first 100 days is okay, they had already taken off on their respective terms,” he said.

“In 100 days, they are supposed to have done many activities. Aside from knowing their local government unit well, they are supposed to also plan especially on their executive and legislative agenda for the next three years of their term,” he added.

While they had rendered their first 100 days, the DILG regional director said local government officials are expected to implement planned programs for the succeeding years.

“They will implement, deliver services to their constituents,” he added.

Before their stint, the elected governors, mayors, city and municipal councilors had undergone training and orientation under the Local Government Academy, the training arm of the DILG.

Iglesia said the DILG has paid attention to the first 100 days of newly elected officials because their constituents are "excited" to witness what the public servant will do during the first months of his or her term.

Iglesia, however, clarified that DILG will not fine or penalize new local officials who failed to fulfill what they promised during the campaign season. (PNA)
