COTABATO CITY -- Twenty-eight local government units (LGUs) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) made it to the list of passers for the 2019 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

This year’s number of SGLG passers in the region is higher by five compared to last year’s SGLG program passers at 23.

“We congratulate the 28 LGUs in the region,” said Minister Naguib Sinarimbo of BARMM’s Ministry of the Interior and Local Government, in a statement.

GOOD GOVERNANCE PASSERS. The list per region of local government units (LGUs), which passed the criteria set for the 2019 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, included 28 LGUs in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Two provinces, a city, and 25 municipalities in the BARMM made it to the list. (Document photo courtesy of MILF-BARMM)

He described the achievement as an improvement that augurs well with the call of BARMM Chief Minister Ahod “Murad” Ebrahim for moral governance, and for the regional government and LGUs to create a synergy to hasten the phase of development in the region.

“We will push further, and in the years to come, we hope to demonstrate greater improvement in the governance of the whole region,” Sinarimbo said, as he acknowledged the contribution of the defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao government in laying the foundation for the outstanding performance of the LGUs.

In the SGLG province category, Basilan and Maguindanao were included on the list of passers.

In the city category, Lamitan also made it to the list.

In the level of municipalities, those included were Maluso and Sumisip in Basilan; Balabagan, Buadiposo Buntong, Calanugas, Kapatagan, Piagapo, and Taraka in Lanao del Sur; Barira, Buldon, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Datu Paglas, Datu Piang, Guindulungan, Kabuntalan, Matanog, Paglat, Shariff Aguak, South Upi, Sultan Kudarat, Sultan sa Barongis, and Upi in Maguindanao; Talipao in Sulu; and Sibutu and Simunul in Tawi-Tawi.

The SGLG is an award, incentive, honor, and recognition-based program for all LGUs.

The program requires LGUs to continually progress and improve performance in the governance areas of financial administration; disaster preparedness; social protection; peace and order; business-friendliness and competitiveness; environmental protection; and tourism culture and the arts. (PNA)
