SAN ILDEFONSO, Bulacan – A village chief in this town was shot dead by men riding in tandem on Tuesday morning, police said.

Lt. Col. Voltaire Rivera, San Ildefonso police chief, identified the fatality as Felimon Santos, barangay chairman of Malipampang.

Another person, who was identified as Richard del Rosario, a resident of Barangay Pala-Pala, also in this town, was hit by a stray bullet and was taken to the R. de C. Galvez Medical Center for treatment, Rivera said.

Initial investigation showed that Santos was in front of a store beside his house in the village when the men arrived and shot him several times in different parts of his body, killing him instantly.

Rivera said the gunmen then fled on board a gray Yamaha Mio motorcycle without a license plate number and sped toward San Rafael town, also in this province.

Investigators were immediately tasked to collate closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera recordings going to and coming out of the crime scene.

Dragnet operations were also requested from nearby police stations while the motive behind the killing was being established.

"Residents in the area claimed that a few years ago, an assassination attempt was tried by unidentified gunmen against Santos but he was able to run for cover and escaped unhurt," Rivera added. (PNA)
