The DTI in the province gave the Bagwis Awards following the "Kapihan sa PIA" forum at a local hotel here in line with the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month this October.

The awarding was led by one of the forum's guest speakers, DTI Assistant Secretary for Consumer Protection Group, lawyer Anne Claire Cabochan.

The Bagwis Program has three levels of award: bronze, silver, and gold.

All of the 17 establishments were given the Gold Bagwis Award for having met all four requirements, said Hermel Sun, Consumer Welfare Desk Officer of DTI-Negros Oriental.

For the bronze category, the criteria are compliance with fair trade laws plus putting up a Consumer Welfare Desk or a customer service desk inside the establishment.

The silver category includes achievement of the bronze category requirements plus another requirement – having a Corporate Social Responsibility program.

For the gold category, an establishment must have achieved the bronze and silver requirements and must be compliant with ISO 9001 or having met requirements of the Quality Management System.

DTI provincial director Nimfa Virtucio joined Cabochan in the handing over of the gold seals of excellence to the 7-Eleven awardees.

The theme for this year’s Consumer Welfare Month is “Sustainable Consumption: Understanding the Impact of Consumers Choices in a Shared Environment”. (PNA)
