LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Pangasinan has suspended three policemen for 30 days due to misconduct.

Col. Redrico Maranan, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) director, said the suspension of the three unnamed policemen is part of the continuous internal cleansing in their organization.

He said since he assumed his post on May 28 until Oct. 20 this year, some 61 administrative cases have been filed against policemen.

“Of the 61 administrative cases, 12 are against officers while 49 are non-officers,” Maranan said in a phone interview Tuesday.

Nine PNP non-officers in the province were also charged with criminal cases, he disclosed.

“Admin(istrative) cases are usually, neglect of duties and misconduct, while criminal cases range from illegal discharge of firearm, murder, or homicide,” Maranan said.

Some 16 personnel of PNP Pangasinan are also undergoing pre-charge investigation, of which two are officers while 14 are non-officers.

“Pre-charge investigation is to determine the sufficiency of evidence against the allegations against them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maranan said 20 personnel are also undergoing summary hearings.

“There are personnel undergoing summary hearing because there is already sufficient evidence established to set the case for hearing. Of the total number, four are officers while 16 are non-officers,” he said.

Maranan assured he does not tolerate erring cops in the province, while they also follow due process against complaints on alleged erring policemen.

“I am a disciplinarian. If a police violated or did something against the law, we will act upon it. In fact, Pangasinan policemen regularly undergo random drug testing, especially those who are handling anti-drug operations and so far, no one (is) tested positive of illegal drugs,” he said.
