LEGAZPI CITY --- A total of 209 villages in the Bicol region have declared the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), as persona non grata, the Regional Task Force Katoninongan Asin Kauswagan (Peace and Development) said on Friday.

Col. Aldwine Almase, chief of staff of the Philippine Army's (PA) 9th Infantry Division, said at a media forum on Friday that the resolution labeling the communist movement as persona non grata was passed by various barangay legislative councils which believe that the presence of the communist terrorist group would serve as a hindrance to peace and development.

All of the councils that passed the resolution said that peace and development have not been achieved due to the rebel movement’s continuous harassment and attacks against military and police personnel, civilians as well as public and private structures.

Earlier, the Sangguniang Bayan of Polangui town in Albay also declared the CPP-NPA and its front groups and affiliates as “persona non grata”.

The resolution was unanimously passed by the eight members of the town's legislative council presided by Vice Mayor Restituto Fernandez. (PNA)
