BACOLOD CITY -- The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) and the Bacolod City Police Office will deploy personnel in cemeteries and transport hubs starting Thursday as forces go on full alert for the Oplan Ligtas Undas 2019.

Col. Romeo Baleros, police provincial director, said on Wednesday that during the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day holidays all personnel are expected to render duty and those on leave will be recalled.

“I encourage police personnel to visit their departed loved ones before the November 1 and 2 deployment to ensure that personal matters will not interfere with their respective duties,” he said.

In Negros Occidental, a total of 448 policemen will be deployed all over the province to man the police assistance desks in 90 cemeteries, 47 bus terminals, and 16 seaports.

Baleros said the rest of the personnel will remain in police stations to perform anti-crime duties and police functions while those in mobile force companies will conduct border control and checkpoint operations.

The police will be augmented by volunteers from Barangay Peace Keeping Action Teams and medical emergency units.

In Bacolod, Maj. Lester Leada, head of city police operations section, said they will deploy 112 policemen to secure the 11 cemeteries here.

“We will set up police assistance desks in coordination with barangay officials and force multipliers,” he said.

Policemen will also be assigned in bus terminals, seaports and other places of convergence from Thursday to Saturday.

Leada said that more than 200 augmentation personnel from the Police Regional Office-Western Visayas, who were previously assigned for the MassKara Festival, will serve as beat patrollers.

Moreover, Leada reminded Bacolodnons to secure their homes before going to cemeteries.

“We appeal to everyone to police your own homes to avoid being victims of robbers. Also, just bring enough money and don’t wear expensive jewelry when going to visit your departed loved ones,” he added. (PNA)
